From a stellar presentation, to unique and high-quality products, to helpful service, the Produce Manager significantly influences the customer experience that has become World Foods trademark. The Produce Manager provides overall leadership to the Produce Team; is responsible for managing profitability, cost control, buying, merchandising and labor; works with the Produce Team to clean, prepare and display produce to ensure quality and freshness that meet company standards; and is responsible for scheduling staff and maintaining labor budgets. The Produce Manager is expected to set the standard for customer interaction and customer service.
Status: Full-time and benefits eligible
Schedule: 6 am – 3 pm (flexible), available some weekends, nights if needed
Duties & Responsibilities:
Ensure products in the Produce Department are fresh, organized, and well merchandised.
Rotate product and utilize proper signage according to department procedure.
Order product and ensure appropriate inventory levels; receives product deliveries and ensure that the order and invoice are accurate.
Merchandise the produce to ensure it is presented in a visually appealing way to boost sales.
Assist in maintain back-stock areas according to department standards.
Partner with other department heads to mitigate product loss.
Offer the best in customer service to all World Foods customers.
Maintain knowledge of produce, provides information to customers regarding produce use and preparation.
Ensure all Produce Department staff are providing effective customer service to all customers and those that enter the store.
Build strong relationships with vendors to ensure all customers get the best product available.
Serve as a leader at the store and act as an effective team member to ensure store success.
Adhere to Produce Department labor budget.
Recruit, hire, discipline, manage performance, and terminate employment of employees.
Maintain a highly motivated, well-trained staff by providing ongoing training and supervision.
Schedule staff to ensure the department is appropriately staffed to meet customer needs.
Ensure the Produce department is clean and safety hazards are removed.
Set and exceed department goals for sales, safety, merchandising, and more.
Ensure department is country of origin (COOL) compliant.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Needed:
Must have at least 3 years of experience in produce department operations, preferably in a retail/grocery environment as a leader or manager.
Strong work ethic to ensure all tasks are completed.
Exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal)
Outstanding problem solving skills while managing multiple priorities effectively.
Desire to take “full ownership” of the Produce Department at the store.
Ability to prioritize work tasks, multi-task, and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to read, write, understand, and speak English is required.
The ability to work flexible hours in order to meet business need.
Self-motivated and solution orientated.
Strong leadership skills
Strong analytical acumen and attention to detail.
Valid Food Handlers’ card is required for this role.
Basic math skills.
The ability to stand and walk for entire shift.
The ability to lift and carry food weighing up to 50 pounds, frequently lifting loads of around 35 pounds.
Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, and lifting.
Repetitive wrist and hand motions (manual trimming and cutting).
