Formed in 2009 Back to Eden Bakery is a small batch dedicatedly vegan gluten-free bakery committed to serving high quality nourishing foods lovingly prepared that everyone can enjoy. Our storefront is located at 2217 NE Alberta St. in Northeast Portland, Oregon. We conduct all of our baking and food production in a commercial kitchen located directly behind our shop. We are currently in an exciting state of growth and working to develop other branches of our operation that will build upon our mission. We are looking for an experienced Cake Baker/Decorator with a genuine interest in becoming an integral member of our growing company and a commitment to our progressive food philosophy.

SALARY: Hourly + tips DOE

REPORTS TO: Executive Chef/Kitchen Manager, General Manager and Production Manager
HOURS: This is a full-time position averaging 35 to 40 hours per week including weekends. You may be required to work extra hours and/or days on an irregular basis due to unforeseen circumstances, emergencies and/or special events.
REVIEWS/RAISES: You will receive a 1 month performance only evaluation. You will then receive salary and performance evaluations at 6 months and 1 year. After that, evaluations will occur yearly on or near your start date anniversary. Salary review will be based on details covered in the reviews and overall company financial health.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lead Cake Baker/Decorator is responsible for the daily creation of Back to Eden Bakery’s small-batch vegan, gluten-free specialty products executed to perfection and for contributing to the smooth day-to-day operations of the kitchen in coordination with Back to Eden Bakery. This position will focus primarily on cake production although should expect to support the baking team with a few additional baking responsibilities.
-Report directly to the Production Manager and/or Kitchen Manager to receive direction
-Prepare food items in accordance with production requirements and quality standards
-Execute all cake, pastry and confections precisely and expediently
-Correspond with special order clients particularly in reference to wedding orders
-Co-manage the special order calendar to make sure all orders are fulfilled precisely
-Be available to deliver and set-up wedding orders on location when needed
-Liaise with bakery cafe staff to properly supply them with the products for retail
-Maintain proper par stocks and communicate inventory needs proactively
-Ensure proper stock rotation in all areas of the kitchen and minimize wastage
-Ensure that all food items are properly stored and labeled at all times
-Maintain hygiene standards within guidelines of health codes and company standards
-Ensure that all kitchen equipment is cleaned and sanitized after every use
-Report all malfunctioning equipment to Production Manager and/or Kitchen Manager
-Help to receive all goods and break them down for storage on a FIFO basis
-Any other duties assigned by the Production Manager and/or Kitchen Manager
-Maintain a safe sanitary work environment at all times
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or GED equivalent, post secondary education preferred, formal culinary training or combination of education and experience a plus; current Oregon State Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe certification; computer literacy and email accessibility.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years working as a baker with an emphasis on cake baking and decorating. **Experience in wedding cakes/tiered cake designs is a PLUS**
Personal experience with vegan and/or gluten-free baking also a plus.
